Grenache has always been the centerpiece of our 'Bloom Phase' Red, doing most of the fresh and juicy heavy lifting. Historically Grenache has been blended with bolder and darker varieties to beef up its color and texture; but left to its own devices the results are vibrant, fresh, and brimming with fruit and flowers. I've always loved the candied-like fruit flavors and aromatics of Grenache when properly tempered with natural acidity, and the delicate pigment of the grape lends to a brilliant mahogany color when fermented whole cluster, for an extended maceration of 75 days. In some ways using extended maceration on Grenache plays into some of the same logic of the folks who prefer it blended with Syrah and / or Mourvedre: accenting its buoyant fruitiness with some extra spice and umami. Think of this limited bottling as Bloom Phase Plus.
