The first red wine we ever made was a Blaufränkisch from Lodi back in 2013. It was a really fun wine, but it didn't feel like the right place for the grape. The Shasta-Trinity vineyard south of the majestic Trinity Alps, might be the perfect place for the grape. Imagine the aroma of muddling a kiddy pool full of blueberry mint julep in nothing but a fresh pair of Lederhosen — the breeze rolls in over the mountains, carrying with it the musk of dried pine needles heating up on the rocky ground — you dip your glass into the pool of dark fruity beverage, pull out a stick of black liquorice from the pocket of your lederhosen, and bite off each end forming a straw. The sun breaks through the trees as you submerge your liquorice straw into the glass and slurp with abandon.
